How do I adjust a ProPay budget?
Six ways to change a ProPay's budget mid-job.
Purpose
Sometimes a ProPay's budget needs to change. Maybe the contract changed, maybe scope crept, maybe the original estimate was wrong. Protiv has 6 different ways to adjust the budget.
When To Use This
Use this when:
- Contract value changed mid-job
- Scope grew or shrunk
- Original budget estimate was off
- You need to handle a change order
The 6 Adjustment Types
When to Use Each
Percentage Increase / Decrease
Use when scope changed by a known amount.
- Customer added an extra room (15% scope bump) → percentage_increase 15%
- Customer cut a feature (10% scope cut) → percentage_decrease 10%
Multiply
Use for double-sized jobs or half-size revisions.
- Job doubled in scope → multiply 2.0
- Job cut in half → multiply 0.5
Same effect as percentage, different mental model. Pick whichever feels natural.
Manual Amount / Manual Hours
Use when the new budget needs to be a specific number.
- New contract is $4,500 → manual_amount $4,500
- New estimate is 60 hours → manual_hours 60
This overrides the original entirely.
How to Apply an Adjustment
- Open the ProPay
- Click Edit Budget (or open the budget config modal)
- Pick adjustment type
- Enter the value
- Save
The ProPay recalculates with the new budget.
What Doesn't Change
- Time entries already logged stay
- Worker assignments stay
- Bonus pool config stays
Only the budget number itself changes.
Common Mistakes & How To Fix Them
"I adjusted budget but the bonus didn't change" ProPay may need to recalculate. Sometimes refresh the page or wait a moment.
"My adjustment got reset on next sync" Some integrations push budget updates that overwrite Protiv adjustments. If this is happening, contact support to disable budget sync for that integration.
"I want to undo an adjustment" Set adjustment type to None, save. Original budget restored.
