How do I change someone's role?

Promote, demote, or move someone between Protiv roles.

Purpose

Roles change. A worker gets promoted to crew lead. A crew lead becomes a manager. This article shows you how to update roles cleanly.

When To Use This

Use this when:

  • Someone gets promoted
  • A role assignment was set wrong at invitation
  • An admin no longer needs admin access

Quick Path

  1. People page
  2. Find the user
  3. Click their role (or actions → Edit Role)
  4. Pick the new role
  5. Save

Step-by-Step

Open the People page. Find the user.

Click their role badge OR open actions menu → Edit Role.

A modal opens with a role dropdown. Pick the new role.

Confirm. Change takes effect immediately.

Bulk Role Change

Selecting multiple users and changing their role at once:

  1. Filter the People list
  2. Select multiple users via checkbox
  3. Click Bulk Edit Role
  4. Pick the new role
  5. Confirm

Effects of a Role Change

  • Permissions update immediately
  • User may need to refresh their browser to see new tabs
  • Mobile app updates on next sign-in
  • ProPays they were on stay assigned to them
  • Open bonuses keep their original calculation

Important: Don't Demote Mid-Approval

If a manager is in the middle of approving ProPays and you demote them, those approvals may be affected. Wait for them to finish or reassign.

Common Mistakes & How To Fix Them

  • "I changed the role but they say nothing's different" Have them log out + back in.

  • "I want to make someone a 'view-only' admin" Protiv has 4 roles, no view-only role. Closest is Crew Lead.
