What is drive time and how does it affect bonuses?
Time spent driving between jobs — tracked separately, often excluded.
Purpose
Drive time is the time crews spend driving between job sites. Protiv tracks it separately from work time and gives you control over how it factors into bonus calculations.
Why It Matters
If drive time counts toward actual labor cost on a ProPay, every job with travel will be over budget. That kills bonuses across the board.
The fix: exclude drive time from the calculation.
Drive Time Sources
Drive time can come from:
- Your integration (Aspire, Jobber, etc. tracks it)
- The Protiv worker mobile app (Procore customers — clock-in records driving)
- Manual time entries categorized as drive
How It's Treated
By default, drive time is recorded but excluded from ProPay actual labor cost.
You can see all excluded drive times in ProPays → Excluded Drive Times.
When to Include Drive Time
Some customers do include drive time in the actual cost. This makes sense if:
- Drive time is a real business cost you're managing
- Crews are paid for drive (so excluding inflates the bonus)
- You bill customers for drive time
Toggle this in your settings.
Per-Job Override
You can override the global drive-time setting on individual ProPays. Include or exclude per-ProPay.
Common Mistakes & How To Fix Them
"Bonus is way smaller than expected — actual hours look high" Verify drive time is being excluded. If it's included, every actual hour count includes the drive.
"Drive time isn't showing up in the Excluded list" Verify drive time is categorized correctly in your integration. If it's lumped with work time, Protiv can't separate it.
