How do I edit a worker's wage or bonus rate?
Update a worker's wage in Protiv and choose when the change takes effect.
Purpose
Wages can be updated in Protiv on synced workers. This article shows you how, and explains the effective date so the change applies correctly.
When To Use This
Use this when:
- A worker got a raise
- A worker's role changed and so did their pay rate
- You spotted an incorrect wage and need to fix it
Before You Start
Make sure:
- The worker exists in Protiv (they synced from your integration)
- You're logged in as Admin or have wage-edit permissions
- You know the effective date for the wage change
Important rule:
- Wage changes use an effective date. They don't retroactively change ProPays already in progress unless you explicitly choose that option.
Quick Path
- Go to the People page
- Find the worker
- Open their profile
- Click Edit on the wage field
- Enter the new wage and effective date
- Save
Step-by-Step
Step 1: Open the worker's profile
Go to the People page. Find the worker in the list. Click their name to open the profile.
Step 2: Edit the wage field
On the worker profile, find the wage field. Click Edit.
Step 3: Enter the new wage and effective date
A modal opens with the current wage. Enter:
- New wage — The hourly rate
- Effective date — When this rate starts applying
The effective date matters. If you're giving a raise that should start next pay period, set the effective date to that period's start date.
Step 4: Save
Click Save. The wage change is recorded as a wage_activity in Protiv. You can see the history of wage changes for that worker.
A confirmation appears.
What Happens to Existing ProPays
ProPays already in progress at the time of the wage change keep their original wage rate by default. New ProPays use the new rate from the effective date forward.
If you need to apply the new wage to an in-progress ProPay (rare), edit the ProPay directly and the manager will see the option to recalculate.
Where Wages Come From in the First Place
Wages sync from your integration. When a worker is first added in Aspire/Jobber/etc., their wage syncs to Protiv. After that, you can update wages directly in Protiv without going back to your integration — though many customers still prefer to update in their source-of-truth system and let it sync.
Common Mistakes & How To Fix Them
"My wage change isn't reflected in this week's bonus" Check the effective date. If you set it to next week, this week is still on the old rate.
"I edited the wage but it reset overnight" Your integration may be the source of truth and overwriting Protiv's value on sync. Update the wage in your integration too, or contact support to disable wage sync from your integration.
"I can't see the Edit button" You may not have the permission to edit wages. Check with an admin.
"The wage change applied retroactively and now bonuses are off" Set effective dates carefully. If a wage change accidentally applied to a closed pay period, contact support.
