How do I hold a bonus line item?
Pause a line item from paying out, on demand.
Purpose
A line item normally moves from Held to In Process automatically after the waiting period. But sometimes you need to manually hold a line item that's about to pay — because something needs review.
When To Use This
Use this when:
- A customer complaint just came in and you need to pause the bonus
- A quality issue surfaced after work completion
- Audit caught an error that needs investigation
- You need to delay payout to next period for any reason
Quick Path
- Open Bonuses → Line Items
- Find the line item
- Click the actions menu
- Click Hold
- Confirm
Step-by-Step
Find the line item. It should be in In Process or recently In Process state.
Click the actions menu and select Hold.
A confirmation modal opens. You can add a note explaining why it's held. Save.
The line item moves to Held status. It stays there until you release it.
What Held Means
A held line item:
- Doesn't pay out
- Stays on the dashboard's Held Bonuses section
- Can be released, voided, or extended
Resolving Held Items
Three paths:
- Release — Item goes back to In Process and pays out
- Void — Item is canceled. Worker doesn't get this bonus.
- Extend — Keep it held longer (e.g. push another waiting period)
Common Mistakes & How To Fix Them
"I held it but it still paid out" The hold may have been applied after the statement closed. Check the statement status.
"I want to hold all my bonuses" That's what waiting periods are for. Configure the pool's waiting period instead of manually holding everything.
