How do I set up the Aspire API connection in Protiv?
Here’s how to generate your Aspire API key and connect it to Protiv step by step.
To sync Protiv with Aspire, you need to set up a secure connection using Aspire’s API.
Don’t worry—you don’t need to be technical to get this done.
Just follow the steps below to generate the right credentials and plug them into Protiv.
Step-by-step: Set up your Aspire API connection
1. Log into Aspire as an Admin
Only Aspire users with admin-level permissions can create API keys.
2. Go to the Administration section
- Click your profile or company menu in Aspire
- Select Administration
- Look for the API section
3. Generate a new API key
- Click Create New API Key
- In the form that appears:
- Name it → Enter Protiv as the name
- Permissions → Select ALL permissions
This is critical—Protiv needs full access to pull jobs, time entries, team info, and more
4. Copy the API credentials
After creating the key, you’ll be given:
- Client ID
- Client Secret
⚠️ Important: Copy both of these now. You won’t be able to see them again later.
5. Paste them into Protiv
Head over to your Protiv account:
- Go to Settings > Integrations
- Select Aspire
- Paste the Client ID and Client Secret into the matching fields
- Click Connect
That’s it. Protiv will start syncing your Aspire data automatically every ~20 minutes.
Common setup mistakes to avoid
- Didn’t select all permissions → This will break the sync or cause missing data
- Forgot to name it “Protiv” → Not required, but makes it easier to identify in Aspire later
- Lost the Client Secret → You’ll need to delete and re-generate a new API key if you didn’t save it
You’re connected when…
- You see Aspire properties, contacts, jobs, and work tickets inside Protiv
- Syncs begin happening automatically (give it 15–30 minutes to populate the first time)
