Use the Bonuses page to review, adjust, and manage worker bonuses and deductions from one central place.
Purpose
This article explains what the Bonuses page is used for, what each view shows, and what actions are available based on a statement’s status. It’s your control center for bonus review and cleanup before and after payroll.
When To Use This
Use this when:
- You’re reviewing bonuses before paying workers
- You need to add or fix a bonus or deduction
- You’re trying to understand why certain actions aren’t showing
- You want to audit bonus history or worker pay
Before You Start
- You must have access to Bonuses
- Bonus statements or line items must already exist
- Actions you see depend on the current status of a statement
Quick Path
-
Go to Incentives > Bonuses
-
Use Statements for summary and payroll actions
-
Use Line Items for detailed review
-
Actions change based on whether a statement is Open, Paid, or Void
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 — Understand the two main views
The Bonuses page has two tabs.
Statements tab (summary view)
Use this tab for payroll-level work.
Each row shows one worker per pay period, including:
- Statement ID: Unique identifier for each statement
- Statement period: Date range of the pay period
- Name / Work dates: Worker name + actual work date range
- Bonuses: Total positive compensation amounts for the period
- Deductions: Total negative compensation amounts for the period
- Net balance: Bonuses + Deductions + Rollover Amount
- Rollover amount: Negative balance carried forward from previous statement
- Status: Current state of the statement (Paid, open, void)
This is the best place for review, bulk actions, and payments.
Line Items tab (detailed view)
Use this tab for investigation and detail.
Each row represents a single bonus or deduction, including:
- Statement ID: Unique identifier for each statement
- Name / Work dates: Worker name + actual work date range
- Amount: Monetary value of the bonus/deduction (Green: bonuses / Red: Deductions)
- Status: Current state of the statement
- In process: Active and being processed
- Held: Temporarily paused (shows days remaining if applicable)
- Paid: Successfully paid to worker
- Void: Cancelled/invalidated
- Deleted: Removed from system
- Reference: Source of the bonus/deduction
- Client: Client name associated with the job
- Job / Milestone: Specific work that generated this bonus/deduction
- Actions: Available operations for each line item
- View Details: See complete line item information
- Hold: Temporarily pause processing
- Adjust: Modify held items (extend dates, change amounts)
- Release: Resume processing of held/void items
- Void: Cancel the line item
Step 2 — Search and filter results
Both tabs support filtering to help you narrow things down.
Filter by worker
- Use the People filter
- Search by worker name
- Select one or multiple workers
Only workers with bonus data will appear.
Additional filters
- Period: Statement or payroll period
- Division or branch (if enabled)
- Text search: Names, codes, descriptions
Filters stack, so you can combine them to get very specific.
Step 3 — Understand why you only see “Open” as an action
The actions menu (⋯) changes based on statement status.
If a statement is Open
You can:
- Mark as Paid
- Void
- Add Bonus
- Add Deduction
- View details
If a statement is Paid or Void
You will only see:
• Open
This reopens the statement so it can be edited again.
Note: Protiv hides actions that don’t make sense for the current state.
For example, you can’t pay something that’s already paid.
Step 4 — Take action on a statement
From the Statements tab, you can:
- Mark as Paid to finalize payment
- Void to cancel a statement
- Open to reopen a paid or voided statement
- Add Bonus to add new positive pay
- Add Deduction to subtract from pay
All actions are controlled by the statement’s status.
Step 5 — Use Line Items for deeper review
The Line Items tab is read-only for most users and is best for:
- Understanding where a bonus came from
- Reviewing categories and sources
- Auditing adjustments or corrections
- Verifying job or milestone links
Common Mistakes & How To Fix Them
- Only seeing “Open” in the actions menu
Fix: The statement is Paid or Void. Reopen it to see more actions. - Trying to pay a statement twice
Fix: Check the Status column before taking action. - Editing details in the wrong tab
Fix: Use Statements for actions, Line Items for investigation. - Too many results on screen
Fix: Add worker, status, or period filters.
